Patric Farrell letter and note to Warren S. Smith, circa 197-?

The collection consists of two items from Patric Farrell to Warren S. Smith, both circa 1970; letter, on Museum of Irish Art letterhead, praises Smith's work on G.B. Shaw, and includes messages for acquaintances in the Penn State community, also mentioning the Pentagon Papers and Farrell's recuperation from his second operation for cancer; the note is inscribed to Smith on a souvenir program from a 1934 exhibition in honor of Robert Flaherty, Wild Earth, at the Museum of Irish Art, directed by Farrell.

Patric Farrell was a writer and museum director, generally on Irish topics. Born in New York, he was educated privately, developing an interest in Irish culture and arts. He was the Director of New York's Irish theatre, 1927-1930, and then founder and director of the Museum of Irish Art. Warren S. Smith came to Penn State in 1946. He was named first director of the general education program of the College of Arts and Architecture and assistant director of the Institute for the Arts and Humanities Studies in 1967.
