This collection includes the professional correspondence of Samuel Calvin, dated 1884 to 1910, as well as publications. Also there is family material, including correspondence, photographs, and travel journals, in boxes 10-12. Speeches and offprints of articles are in boxes 13-14. Samuel Calvin was born February 2, 1840, in Wigtaltonshire, Scotland. Mr. Calvin's parents immigrated to the United States in 1851, and lived first in New York, and then Iowa in 1855. On April 30, 1864, he enlisted in the service of the Union Army, 44th Regiment of the Iowa Infantry Volunteers, as a private in Company C, for a period of 100 days. Himie Voxman is among UI's most honored faculty and administrators. He earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from the UI with high distinction in 1933, and received a master's degree in 1934 in the psychology of music, studying with pioneering researcher Carl Seashore.
