Ledger, 1780-1782.

"Ledger B" kept 2 October 1780 - 2 October 1782 by Christopher Meng, Lt. Col. and Assistant Deputy Quartermaster General, for brigades of the Continental Army from New England and the Middle Atlantic colonies during the Revolutionary War. Accounts are arranged in five classes: land transportation, camp equipage, tools (of all trades), stationery products, and a fifth miscellaneous category including building and "forage" supplies. Also sundry accounts for specific units, and high-ranking field officers.

In response to the expansion of the Continental Army the number of staff was increased and reorganized in 1776. Changes included the creation of a new unit to supplement George Washington's personal staff. This special unit, the Commander in Chief's Guard, was formed on March 12, 1776 with Captain Caleb Gibbs (formerly adjutant of the 14th Continental Regiment and appointed Aid to Major General Greene) as commander.
