Kuderna received his education at the University of Michigan and the University of Chicago. After teaching positions at several institutions, he devoted a long faculty career in education at Auburn University (1929-1962). He retired as Professor Emeritus of Education in June 1962. East Alabama Male College, sponsored by the Methodist Episcopal Church, South, was chartered in May 1856. Classes opened in 1859 in Auburn, Alabama, but the college closed during the Civil War. Reopening in 1866, the college became a land-grant institution in 1872 and changed its name to Agricultural and Mechanical College of Alabama.
