Alfred Yoemans letters to his brother, 1862-1870.

Alfred writes from a variety of states in the west after leaving New York City following the draft riots there in 1863. He may have left to void being drafted himself. He writes from Nevada, Nebraska, Wyoming and Colorado and mentions such topics as the proliferation of whore houses and gin mills, the resulting paucity of well-mannered individuals, Indian attacks, vigilance committees in Cheyenne, Wyoming, and a prairie fire.
