Trained under J.F. Blondel at the Ecole des Arts in Paris, Sir William Chambers served as the Architect of the King's Works and Surveyor-General and Comptroller under King George III. His works included the remodeling at Buckingham Palace, and his principal work Somerset House, among others. Influential through his publications, most notably Treatise on Civil Architecture of 1759-91, Chambers additionally was a founding member of the Royal Academy of Art, serving as its first treasurer. ...
