Letter [manuscript]. 1837.

Contemporary transcript of extracts from a letter written by an unidentified officer of the HMS Buffalo. The letter gives an account of the first weeks of the new colony of South Australia and describes the settlement of Adelaide and its surrounding countryside. The letter also describes the interaction between the white settlers and the Aboriginal inhabitants and includes some details on the native bird life and the native "wild dog" [dingo]. Accompanying the contemporary transcript is a typed transcript on the letter prepared by National Library Staff.
