Minute book, August 1896 - April 1987, containing the minutes of 21 meetings of the Executive, General and Working Committees which were convened to organise the Fair. Most minutes are signed by Cardinal Moran. Parochial ladies' committees notebook, August -November 1896, containing lists of 24 committees, the number of committees equalling the number of stalls at the Fair. Also includes lists of ticket books for the first Cathedral Art Union, and of organisational expenses.

A new fund raising drive to advance the building of St. Mary's Cathedral was initiated by Cardinal Moran in 1896. A diocesan Synod resolved that ladies' committees should be formed in each parochial district for fund raising. Such local initiatives culminated in the Grand Australian Fair on the Cathedral site.
