Correspondence and press cuttings relating the appointment and resignation, 1913 as High Court Judge and the 1922 election campaign. The main correspondents are Dowell O' Reilly (Piddington's brother-in-law) and W. M. Hughes. The bulk of the collection comprises letters of congratulation on Piddington's appointment to the High Court.

O'Reilly, Dowell, 1865-1923

Dowell O'Reilly, poet and short-story writer, was born in Sydney, N.S.W. in 1865. In 1884 he published Australian Poems, and in 1888 A Pedlar's Pack. He was the member for Parramatta, N.S.W., in the Legislative Assembly from 1894-1898, and master at Sydney Grammar School, 1898-1909. In 1913 he published Tears and Triumph and in 1920 a collection of short stories from periodicals titled Five Corners. He died in Leura, N.S.W., on 5 Nov. 1923.
