Newspaper cuttings, the bulk of which fall in the period 1898-1901. Concerned mainly with Federation and Australian Federal politics generally, with many articles and obituaries of Sir Edmund Barton and articles on other political figures such as Sir William Lyne and Joseph Lyons. Also includes some cuttings on legal topics, international affairs in Europe, 1933, and historical topics, mainly through the "Old Sydney" column by "Old Chum". Also contains a letter, 1936 Sept. 10, Government House, Adelaide to Sir Littleton Groom, Parliament House, Canberra from Zara Gowrie, indicating that the collection may have been assembled by Groom.

Sir Littleton Ernest Groom was the Federal Member for Darling Downs and member of the first Federal Session. Benjamin Glennie (1812-1900) came to Brisbane as a Church of England clergyman in 1848 and worked for many years on the Darling Downs. Sir Edmund Barton (1849-1920) was the first Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia, having previously been a leading advocate of Federation and one of the draftsmen of the Australian Constitution.
