"Once it was like this!" or "Who remembers when -": autobiographical reminiscences, covering her childhood in South Australia and Melbourne; adolescence and university education in Sydney; work as a teacher in Sydney and Victoria; involvement with amateur theatre, including Joan and Betty Rayner's "Theatre of Youth"; work as a broadcaster, firstly for the A.B.C. in the early days of radio, and later, over a period of 21 years, compiling children's programmes for the Melbourne station 3DB; experiences as a W.A.A.F. officer during World War II; overseas visits to England and Europe in 1935 and 1948, and to the U.S. and Canada in 1952; and finally her work as a school counsellor at the Melbourne Church of England Girl's Grammar School for 18 years until her retirement.
