In a letter,1940 Apr 13, to "Wilson," Dana discusses his connection with the material used in the writing of "The Characters in Tales of a Wayside Inn," by John van Schaick, Jr.; a project proposed by Henry Ford, then owner of the Wayside Inn, to produce a deluxe edition of "The Tales of a Wayside Inn," including an introduction about the sources of the tales and a preface discussing the tellers of the tales; postponement of the Ford project due to the anti-semitism of Ford's editor, [William John] Cameron; Dana's giving van Schaick the results of his research into the sources of the characters and Longfellow's correspondence with them, including Luigi Monti; how Dana would have handled some of the material differently from the way van Schaick did; an indignant letter of T. W. Parsons; and a collection of Parsons letters edited by Zoltán Haraszti. In an undated letter to Byron Johnson Rees, Dana discusses an invitation to lunch with some distinguished French painters at the club "Auteur du Monde."
