LSU Student Union records, 1955-2008 (bulk 1966-1986).

The LSU Student Union records consist primarily of topical files containing correspondence, newspaper articles, reports, and meeting minutes concerning the construction and daily operations of the Union. The correspondence includes letters and memoranda between university administrators and Union personnel regarding budgets, policy creation, and program administration. Intra-Union correspondence includes documentation of patron complaints, employment issues, and budgetary concerns. Newspaper articles document developments in student life between the 1960s and the 1980s. Reports discuss the Union's construction and floor plan. A series of photographic prints includes prints from Peter Soderbergh's "Bright Journey: A Pictorial History of the LSU Union" (1993) and pictures taken by the planning consultant. Also included are dishes from the Union's cafeteria featuring the 1964 Union logo; programs, brochures, and clippings for its opening and dedication in 1964; and posters and fliers advertising art exhibits and other events held in the Union (1967-2000).

Construction of the LSU Union was authorized in 1958 and funded by a $1.7 million allocation from the Board of Supervisors, as well as a $10.00 student fee.
