John Ray Bruckart papers, 1909-1971

John Ray Bruckart (1887-1979) was an official in the U.S. Forest Service from 1909 to 1954. The John Ray Bruckart papers comprise personal correspondence from Bruckart to his wife, Fay; general correspondence, including several letters from Oregon Senator Wayne Morse; other writings by Bruckart, including memoirs and writings on Douglas fir silviculture; 2 Forest Service diaries, 1930-1931; collected materials on the Willamette National Forest and the Three Sisters Wilderness Area; Forest Service alumni newsletters; and memoirs by Rudo L. Fromme and Percy Brown. One folder of photographs of forests, foresters, and logging operations has been removed to the Photograph Collection.

John Ray Bruckart was born June 23, 1887, in Columbus, Pa. From 1905 to 1908 Bruckart served with the U.S. Cavalry, and in 1909 he began a 45 year career with the U.S. Forest Service.
