Oscar Anderson started working at Ford Motor Company in 1926 as captain of the company's newly constructed ore carrier, M/S Henry Ford II. Within a year, he was named Marine Superintendent responsible for the daily operations of the growing Ford fleet of ore boats, barges, and tugs. In addition to the company fleet, Anderson oversaw the construction, fitting, and launching of Edsel Ford's 125-foot yacht, the Onika, built in 1930 by Pusey & Jones in Wilmington, Delaware.
