Correspondence of Thomas M. Smith, of his son, Andrew, and of his niece and ward, Kate Landing. The letters, chiefly from Kate Landing and Andrew Smith, concern student life at a preparatory school in Magnolia; Davenport Female College, Lenoir, 1871-1873; Wilson Collegiate Institute, 1874; a preparatory school at Whiteville; and Wake Forest College, 1875, all in North Carolina; and at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, 1876-1878. There are also several short essays written by Kate Landing while at school.
