Chiefly personal correspondence exchanged between members of the Pursley family during the Civil War. Subjects include the 5th and the 18th regiments, South Carolina Volunteers, C.S.A., the progress of the war in Florida, Mississippi, South Carolina, and Virginia, campaigns, supplies for troops, camp life, and conditions at home in South Carolina. There are also letters during the 1850s from family members who migrated to Texas and Arkansas.
