Pendleton was acting adjutant general to his uncle, William Nelson Pendleton. The material relates to military activities, camp life, engagements with the enemy, the death of Thomas Jonathan "Stonewall" Jackson, and the sermons of William Nelson Pendleton to the soldiers.
