ALS [two], 1936 August 18 & 20, Douglaston, N.Y., to Alphred B. Hailparn.

As Editor-in-Chief of the Yearbook Merton writes to one of his Managing Editors about his summer efforts to get the book started. He mentions that he is working eight hours a day at Radio city and he has not had time to scout around. He mentions his concern about advertising and says, "Far from being a question of advertising out of charity it would show a certain advantage--college men drink a lot of beer..."

Thomas Merton was born on January 31, 1915 in Prades, France to Owen Merton (an artist from New Zealand) and Ruth Jenkins Merton (an artist from the United States), and grew up in New York, Bermuda, France, and England.
