The collection includes correspondence from Daniel Wait Howe and Samuel P. Oyler to Lucy Howe Oyler. Other correspondence includes courtship letters between Howe and Inez Hamilton, and letters of Howe's natural father, Daniel Haven Howe (1811-1841). Other material includes transcripts of diaries written by Howe and William Henry Huntzinger of the 79th Indiana Infantry Regiment. Also included are drafts and revisions of Howe's historical monographs. Genealogical material concerns Inez Hamilton Howe's family.
