Eliakim Morse papers, 1785-1890.

Business papers of Dr. Eliakim Morse, merchant and ship owner of Boston and Watertown, Mass. include several account books, ledgers, daybooks, receipts, and personal accounts, accounts with the Distill House (1808-1811), and an account book of a copartnership in the liquor business with Charles Hunt (1802-1804). Records of the ships Galen and New Galen, merchant vessels which traded between Boston and London, include accounts, correspondence, freight bills, cargo books, and lists of owners and consignors. Also, French spoliation claims filed by Morse for the 1798 capture of the Galen, owned by Morse and Capt. Benjamin Eddy and captained by John Mackay. (Cont.) Other records include letterbooks and account books of Boston merchant firms Graham & Gray, Gray & Morse (Frederic Gray and Samuel T. Morse), and Lowder & Rogers; a letterpress book of Samuel T. Morse; and an account book of Benjamin E. Morse (1809-11) later used by Eliakim (1848-1858). Other misc. items include an export cargo list for Calcutta, India with names of ships (1856-1861); estate records of Benjamin Eddy; catalog of books and household expenses (1832-1845) and wastebooks of Rev. Ebenezer Morse; account book of Frances R. Morse's interests (1874-1890); commonplace books, correspondence, and accounts (1883-1890) of the estate of Harriet Jackson Morse; and a letter/commonplace-book of Francis W.P. Greenwood.
