Papers, 1818-1863.

Family and business letters, largely of William Bishop, or his father, Charles, of Manchester Pa.; and letters from Slater T. Walker to William's wife, Caroline Walker Bishop. Letters of the 1830s when William and Caroline lived in Louisville, Ky., and Manchester, Pa., concern the sale of a slave, illness, cholera, and business affairs. Papers of the 1840s relate to Walker's dry goods business in Hummelstown, to William's court contest with the Savings Bank of Baltimore, and to the Sons of Temperance, which William apparently served as a lecturer. Letters of the later 1840s concern his employment as a justice of the peace and debt collector and conflicts over the Walker family property in Baltimore, Md. Among the correspondents are Carrie Bishop, John C. Bucher, Henry A. Muhlenberg, and J.W. Oliver.
