This is a collection of scrapbooks, many of which were compiled by individual soldiers during their service in the Armed Forces. The contents reflect ordinary military life and wartime experiences. Among the subjects documented are World War I and World War II, the use of armored vehicles, the careers of several army officers, and the history and development of Fort Knox and the Patton Museum of Cavalry and Armor.

General Andrew Davis Bruce was the third President and the first Chancellor of the University of Houston. Bruce became president of the University on September 1, 1954, and chancellor in December 1956. He retired from the University after the 1960-61 academic year. Bruce had served in the United States army for 37 years, serving in both World Wars, and was the governor of Hokkaido, Japan, during the United States occupation.
