The Louisiana State University Department of Bands records contain files of photographic prints, marching diagrams, schedules, and sheet music for marching band performances at football games between 1964 and 1977, as well as other performances as early as 1949. Marching band performances at football games between 1958 and 1982 are recorded on 186 reels of 16mm film. Also included are four posters advertising LSU bands as late as 1992.

The LSU Tiger Band was organized in 1893 as a cadet band with 11 members and became a marching unit by the turn of the century. The band primarily played for the many military dress reviews and drills held regularly on the parade grounds, but it also marched in Mardi Gras parades and made its first halftime appearance in 1924.
