Miscellaneous manuscripts, 1808-1814.

Consists of two items. The first is an order to the Bank of Columbia, dated 29 May 1808 at Georgetown, to pay $500 to the Office of Discount and Deposit at Washington; this is mounted on another sheet with the notation that the item is in Key's handwriting. The second is an itemized receipt for $34.90 "for Expenditures for a Detachment of Volunteers unter the Command of Major Geo. Peter, in the late Expedition to Benedict," signed by Key on 30 July 1814 at Washington.

Major George W. Peter was born on September 28, 1779 to Robert and Elizabeth Scott Peter. He was married three times during his life. First, to Ann Plater in 1809. Together they had two children, George and Thomas. His wife and two children all died in 1814. Secondly, in 1815 he married Agnes Buchanon Freeland.
