Toshiko Marian Morimoto was born on April 23, 1918 in California. Although she attended a segregated school for children of farm workers for her elementary education, she later attended public school, graduating in 1937. Her marriage in 1939 was arranged in the traditional Japanese style. After a brief period of farming, the family was interned at Heart Mountain, Wyoming.
