Series 1 contains biographical and genealogical materials. Series 2 contains photocopies of Peterson's newspaper columns "Rural View" for the Bismarck Tribune; "West of the Wide Missouri" for the Dickinson Press and Daglum News; "Bea Line" for various Stark, Slope, Adams, and Hettinger county newspapers; articles for local and national Lutheran church publications (1959-1967); and feature articles dating from the 1950's to mid-1980's. They describe life at Flag Staff Farms, Stark County residents, organizations, businesses, local events, farming and ranching, and pioneer families. Series 3 contains materials relating to Peterson's extensive political and community activities. Series 4 contains photographs of the Peterson and Olson families; political figures associated with the Democratic-NPL Party; North Dakota CowBelles; Stark County residents and property; Daglum Lutheran Church.

Beatrice Olson Peterson was born on June 25, 1916 in Badger, Iowa. Her family moved to Belfield, N.D. in 1920. She graduated from Dickinson State College (1935), taught school for two years, and married Gilman F. Peterson (1937). They had 5 daughters and owned Flag Staff Farms near South Heart, N.D. She was a journalist for southwestern N.D. newspapers (1949-1985) and active in local, state, and national Democratic-NPL politics. She moved to Couer d'Alene, Idaho in 1986 and died on May 2, 2000. ...

The Farmers' Nonpartisan Political League was organized in North Dakota in 1915 by Arthur C. Townley and other North Dakota Socialist Party members.
