The James Luke Meagher papers. 1882-1895.

Collection contains: an incomplete draft of the introduction to his book, The Seven Gates of Heaven (1895); draft pages from Teaching Truth by Signs and Ceremonies (1882); a four-page sketch of the life of John Cardinal McClosky: a sermon on the duties of parents towards their children; and fragments from unidentified works, including four chapters entitled, "Reasons that are Mystical," "Reasons Relating to the Clergy," "Reason and Religion Looking Beyond the Grave," and, "Reasons of Ceremonies Among the Jews."

An Irish-born priest ordained in 1875, Meagher was also known as an author and served as pastor of St. James Church, Cazenovia, NY. He incorporated the Christian Press Association, 1894, and the Christian Literature Union, 1895, becoming president of both. He died on May 8, 1920.
