James P. Baughman was born in 1936 and raised in Texas and earned his undergraduate degree fron Rice University in Houston. After completing his degree at Rice he attended Tulane University, in New Orleans, and earned his Masters and PhD in history and economics. He became a member of the Harvard Business School faculty in 1962, after teaching positions at Tulane University and the University of Houston.
