ALS, 1757 September 3 : Rade des Basques, to Lieutenant General Wolfe.

British officer Wolfe here writes to his father: "By the Viper Sloop, I have the displeasure to inform yuou that our operations here are at an end; we lost the lucky moment in war and are not able to recover it-- The whole of this Expedition has not cost the Natives 10 men --nor has any man been able to distinguish himself in the service of his Country, except Mr. Howe who was a great example to us all."
