Season of 1931 : scrapbook, 1930-1943 1931.

A notebook-style scrapbook containing newspaper photo clippings with captions. The majority of this scrapbook covers the 1931 season of both the American League and National League. There is one newspaper photo of the 1943 Southern League champs, Nashville Vols, along with a few clippings and a game ticket. A postcard of Honus Wagner, no date. Newspaper photos with captions covering mostly the 1931 season but there are a few clippings of the 1930 and 1932 seasons as well. The last few pages are pasted box scores. There is a team photo of the 1943 Nashville Vols, champs of the Southern League and a game ticket for Ladies Night. Items of note: 18 American and National League game tickets, all for NY games, bleacher and stadium seats; photo of Babe Ruth with the King and Queen of Siam, Jake Ruppert and Amelia Earhart at a Yankee v Tigers game; photo of Vada Corbus, 19-year old female catcher playing for the Joplin Miners; photo of Jackie Mitchell, Ruth and Gehrig at a Chattanooga game.

George Herman Ruth was born February 6, 1895 in Baltimore, Maryland to Katherine and George Herman Ruth Sr. In 1902, Ruth was sent to St. Mary's Industrial School for Boys, an orphanage and reformatory, at the age of seven to teach him discipline. It was here that he learned to play baseball. He signed a contract with the minor league Baltimore Orioles in 1914. Wagner, Honus, 1874-1955

Honus Wagner played for the Louisville Colonels (1897-1899) and the Pittsburgh Pirates (1900-1917, 5 games as player-manager in 1917).
