George Lovick Pierce Wren, Confederate soldier and educator, was born in 1836 in Bienville Parish, Louisiana, and died in 1916. After moving to Putnam County, Georgia, he matriculated as a sophomore at Emory College in January 1857 and graduated in 1859. He was mustered into Company G, 8th Louisiana Infantry Regiment ("Minden Blues") on June 23, 1861, serving first as a private and later as a second lieutenant.
