Here Steuben gives his military history under Frederick the Great, 1761-1763, to the end of the American Revolution. Written to the French Minister of Foreign Affairs under Louis XVI with an object of obtaining a pension or some sort of recompense for his having spent six arduous years in the service of the United States, a service urged upon him by the Count. Steuben became an American citizen in 1784 and on June 4, 1790 an Act of Congress approved a yearly annuity of $2,500 for Baron Steuben.
