Files for the various funded grants which are administered by the Wisconsin Arts Board (WAB). Included are grant programs for individuals and organizations in the following categories of support: Individual Artist Program; Artistic Program Support I, and II, Small Organization Support; Community Arts Program; Performing Arts Network-Wisconsin; Wisconsin Touring Program; Folk Arts Opportunity; Salary Assistance; and Educational Opportunity. Funds that allow the WAB to administer these categories come primarily from state general purpose revenues along with additional money from the National Endowment for the Arts.

The Arts Board was created as a statutory agency by Chapter 90, Laws of 1973, and was subsequently attached to the Department of Administration (WIHV85-A694) by Chapter 333, Laws of 1973. 1995 Wisconsin Act 27 attached the Board to the Dept. of Tourism (WIHV90-A1094). The Board was preceded by a nonstatutory committee, the Governor's Council on the Arts, created in 1963. In 1965, the Governor's Council had merged with a private organization, the Wisconsin Arts Foundation and Council...
