Loring Mandel papers, 1942-2006.

Papers of a playwright and dramatist who gained prominence during the golden age of television drama. Mandel's work for motion pictures is documented by scripts, notes, outlines, research material, and other files on "The Children's Hour" (UA, 1962) and three other films. Miscellaneous writings include a radio script, short stories, and musical arrangements and original musical compositions. A small quantity of personal papers include an undated autobiography, biographical clippings, and several folders of correspondence relating to various productions and his interest in the Theatre Communication Group. Notable correspondents include Ralph Bellamy, Burton Benjamin, Gilbert Cates, Hume Cronyn, Melvyn Douglas, Allen Drury, Norman Felton, Hugh Hefner, John Houseman, Bob Newhart, John Scali, Jack Warner, and Morris L. West. The processed portion of this collection is summarized above, dates 1942-1977, and is described in the register. Additional accessions date 1946 to 2006 and are described below.
