The libretto is in English, published by Alfred Mudge, Boston (1887). It carries the title "The poachers" and names Oscar Weil as the author of the libretto. It is evidently an English adaptation from the French of Chivot and Duru. The promptbooks are also in English for "The poachers" and are typed.

His works were noted for their elements of satire and parody; two for which he is particularly known are the operetta Orpheus in the Underworld and the opera The Tales of Hoffman .
