La sonnambula [collection] : opera in two acts / libretto by Felice Romani ; music by Vincenzo Bellini. 1830-1901.

Arranged in four groups: I. Vocal scores (21). II. Orchestra parts (26). III. Chorus parts (54). IV. Promptbooks (4). A multilingual collection of production materials for Bellini's "La sonnambula," first produced in Milan in 1831. The published vocal scores include Italian editions by Ricordi (Milano, 187- ) and Launer (Paris, 184- ); Italian/English editions by Schirmer (New York, 1901), Boosey (London & New York, 187- ) and Novello (London, 187- ); Italian/German editions by Cranz (Hamburg, 1830-50) and Peters (Leipzig, 187- ); and a French edition by Girod (Paris, 185- ). The orchestra parts include a complete set published by Ricordi (pl. nos. 49266-I--49266-XII and 38952--55) which contain manuscript insertions, and two manuscript string parts in Tams folders. The holograph chorus parts include versions in Italian, Italian & German, and English & French. Several copies have uncut pages. The three English promptbooks are each based on a different edition of the published libretto (one by Rullman, NY, from the Grand English Opera Co. production with Emma Aboott, the other two lacking imprint information), all of which are heavily annotated, including cuts, insertions, and stage directions. One of these also lists the casts for productions at Drury Lane (London, 1835), Arch Street (Philadelphia, 1836), Park Street (New York, 1838), and Chesnut Street (Philadelphia, 1838); in addition, the newspaper obituary of Edw. Seguin, with J.W. Herbert's editorial of Feb. 5, 1851, is bound in. All of the English promptbooks bear the signature(s) of Edw. and/or Anne Seguin. The remaining promptbook is handwritten in German.
