Letters to the French Minister of War on military routines. Letter 1808 mai 1 is written on the day before the "Dos de Mayo" the revolt in Madrid against Napoleon and concerns shipments of supplies to the port of Corfu. -- Letter 1809 mars 7 is written just before the defeat of Austria at Wagram, July 1809.

Eugène de Beauharnais was the son of Alexandre de Beauharnais and Josephine de Tascher de La Pagerie (the future Josephine Napoleon). After the marriage of Josephine and Napoleon, Eugène was adopted by Napoleon (but was not considered heir to the throne). He served in various military and political capacities for Napoleon, including command of the Army of Italy.
