Mary Aitken (1898-1985) was born in Spanish Fork, Utah. She attended Spanish Fork High School and Brigham Young University before marrying James Nathan Aitken in 1921. She died in Kearns, Utah in 1985. James Nathan Aitken (1891-1974) was a farmer and carpenter in Utah. He was born in Lake Shore, Utah and died in Provo, Utah. Plans for the David O. McKay building began in 1952 after an evaluation by the Brigham Young University College of Education concluded that the existing building for the College of Education were no longer meeting the growing needs of the program.
