Correspondence with Carl Zigrosser, 1940-1972.

The 1940-1941 correspondence is from Lester Longman, Head of the Art Department, who used Zigrosser as a distinterested sounding-board. Longman praises Emil Ganso and Fletcher Martin, 2 artists on his staff, and asks for Zigrosser's candid opinion Grant Wood, the center of controversy at the University. Zigrosser's response is critical of Wood's work. Zigrosser spoke at the University in 1941, the year of Emil Ganso's death. Longman wrote for Zigrosser's opinion of Ernest Fiene as a new instructor. Zigrosser wrote back with some criticism and suggested artist Harry Sternberg instead.
