Madison offers examples of Eugene Ormandy's generosity, his rehearsal technique and the part he played in acquiring valuable string instruments for the Philadelphia Orchestra. In addition to describing Philadelphia Orchestra tours to Russia and China, Madison also offers anecdotes and opinions concerning other artists, including Fritz Reiner, Sir Thomas Beecham, Leonard Bernstein, Leopold Stokowski, Van Cliburn and Artur Rubinstein.
