Papers, 1931-1962.

A small collection documenting Krummeich's professional career as an academic and composer. The brief series of correspondence highlights his lecturing engagements in Berlin in the mid-1930s and his attempts to secure both lyrics permissions and performers for his songs. A photograph of Krummeich is also filed here. The Writings series includes radio speeches, lectures, and articles, many of which were published in the University of Pennsylvania's General magazine and historical chronicle, but the bulk of the series is comprised of versions of a rejected and unpublished book manuscript on philosophy and music. The Musical Compositions series mostly consists of 29 songs for voice and piano, but also includes adaptations of two of those songs for larger ensembles; five pieces for orchestra; and two pieces by Constant Vauclain (University of Pennsylvania alumnus and faculty member at the Curtis Institute, University of Pennsylvania, and New School of Music) that may have been gifts to Joyce Michell. The concluding brief series contains correspondence and writings of Joyce Michell, chair of the Department of Music beginning in 1946 and editor of Krummeich's unpublished manuscript.
