Correspondence with Alma Mahler and Franz Werfel, 1922, 1941.

1 item is a typescript of an excerpt of a letter from Toller to E. P. Tal, written while Toller was serving a prison sentence in connection with his involvement in the short-lived socialist republic in Munich in 1918 to 1919 (Münchner Räterrepublik); the excerpt reflects Toller's political convictions and his determination to decline any offers of a special pardon. (The corresponding letter appears in Toller's Briefe aus dem Gefängnis, published 1935, where it is dated 14. Feb. 1922.) The typescript was apparently made and saved by either Franz Werfel or Alma Mahler; it bears an annotation in Alma's hand. The 2nd item is a letter from Else Toller to Werfel appealing to him (among other friends of Toller) for a contribution toward the costs of establishing a gravesite for Toller, the arrangements for which had been neglected.
