Maps, surveys, letters, notes, receipts, typescripts, transcripts, photographs, printed material, and miscellaneous governmental documents pertaining to the Town of Smithtown and its communities. Of note are a bench mark survey of the town, with map sketches, 1956; a special insurance survey of the town, with photographs, 1941; "Land of Sweet Waters," a typescript history of Hauppauge, by Simeon Wood, with photographs of houses, woods, and ponds, 1910, with a photocopy of a 1913 revision; a copy of Norman H. O'Berry's notebook on the history of Smithtown, including grave transcriptions and a census of the community of St. James, 1892; and papers concerning the dredging of Smithtown harbor, including petitions and correspondence with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, 1895-1918. Town records include assessment rolls, 1819 and 1848; election records with expenses, 1895; a road warrant, 1883; and tax lists, 1934.
