Polish Embassy in the United States records, 1939-1945.

Contains photocopies of the exchange of correspondence between the Polish Ambassador to the United States, Jan Ciechanowski, and the Head of Foreign Affairs of the Polish Government in London during World War II, 1939-1945. Also, documents of important dignitaries including a letter from Władysław Sikorski to Prime Minister Winston Churchill concerning terrorism in German-occupied Poland, 1942; and a letter from Ciechanowski to President Roosevelt, 1942. Numerous reports from meetings held between Polish officials and various heads of state including President Roosevelt, Secretary of State Cordell Hull, Secretary of State S. Welles, and the Russian Ambassador to the United States, Umanski. Other documents connected with Polish affairs during World War II include those on the formation of the Polish Army in Russia, 1941; formation of Polish Army in Canada; aid for Poles deported to Russia; documents on the condition of Polish children in Russia; and report of Jan Karski's mission to inform Jews on the tragic situation in occupied Poland.
