Smith's papers primarily concern her interest and work in workers' education and include correspondence, memoranda, reports, minutes, records of office interviews, statistical data, printed and processed materials, clippings, and articles from her work as Director of the Workers' Service Program which was part of the Federal Emergency Relief Administration and later the Works Progress Administration, 1932-1943; her report on workers' education prepared for the Ford Foundation, "Workers' Education in the Federal Emergency Relief Administartion and the Works Progress Administration," ca. 1952, and copies of supporting materials such as correspondence, reports, memoranda, minutes, statistical material, and government publications, 1933-1945; correspondence, reports, minutes, publicity materials, articles, and school publications, 1921-1957, from the Bryn Mawr Summer School, the Vineyard Shore Workers' School, the Hudson Shore Labor School, the Affiliated Schools for Workers, and other resident schools for workers; and correspondence, memoranda, reports, minutes, publicity materials, Congressional bills and hearings, and clippings of the National Committee for the Extension of Labor Education and their lobbying campaign to establish a Labor Extension Service, 1943-1951.
