Headquarters/buildings/fund raising records, 1838-1959.

Records pertaining to the several buildings which housed the Academy and the school including some which were proposed, but not executed. Material deals with with construction, sale, design, fund raising, and site selection for replacement headquarters. Included are notes, texts of addresses, architectural plans and specifications, committee reports, news clippings, deeds, brochures, fire insurance policies, contracts, other legal papers, lawyers' correspondence, and correspondence commenting on some of the plans. A series of related records document the Fellowship Fund concerning successful fund raising efforts to erect a new building, 1860s, and a similar but unsuccessful fund raising effort to build replacement headquarters, 1896-ca. 1930. Another series of records involves the efforts of a group of art organizations called the National Academy Association to secure permanent headquarters for the National Academy of Design as well as the Association organizations, 1911-1958, primarily 1911-1913.
