Papers, [ca. 1920]-1966.

Papers consist of typescript drafts, research notes, and miscellaneous printed matter relating to Cosenza's published and unpublished works on the life and papers of Townsend Harris. Included are manuscripts of THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE COLLEGE OF THE CITY OF NEW YORK AS THE FREE ACADEMY IN 1847: TOWNSEND HARRIS, FOUNDER (1925), COMPLETE JOURNAL OF TOWNSEND HARRIS (1930), "Townsend Harris, Friend of Japan" (unpublished), and "Life, Letters, and Papers of Townsend Harris" (unpublished). Also included are an index to the Townsend Harris letterbooks, with reference to documents in the National Archives; a 2,500 card bibliographical file related to Japanese history and the life of Townsend Harris; copies of Harris' correspondence, 1832-1867; and miscellany related to Harris, Japan, and the centennial celebration of the US-Japan Treaty of 1858.
