Records from a summer theater group operating on the Byrdcliffe property in Woodstock owned by Ralph R. Whitehead. Correspondence of Benjamin L. Webster, director of Phoenix Players, includes letters from Whitehead about the Byrdcliffe site, use of his property, and the termination of their agreement, 1923-1926; two letters from Hervey White, 1926; a letter from Charlotte Perkins Gilman concerning a woman's costume, Webster's work, and her own lecturing, 1926; two letters from Eric Clarke concerning Webster's future work with the Eastman Theatre in Rochester, N.Y., 1926; and a letter by Webster concerning the German Drama League, 1925. Other correspondence includes letters to subscribers, endorsements from local residents, and other business mattters, 1925-1927. Other items include programs, announcements, budgets and financial reports, and stock certificate, 1925-1926; a prospectus with drawings and copies of related correspondence for the establishment of a summer festival in Byrdcliffe, 1933; and a letter to Webster requesting the history of the Phoenix Players, 1970.
