Affiliated societies records, 1868-1950.

Records relating to various societies and organizations affiliated with the Academy, including publications of the Scientific Alliance which was comprised of members of New York City scientific organizations for their mutual benefit and support. It existed from 1891 to 1907. These organizations were the New York Academy of Sciences, Torrey Botanical Club, New York Microscopical Society, Linnaean Society of New York, New York Mineralogical Club, New York Mathematical Society, and the New York Section of the American Chemical Society. Also, minutes of the Council of the Scientific Alliance, 1891-1906; some correspondence and a draft of an agreement regarding the consolidation of the Council with the Academy, 1907; correspondence regarding daily operations and treasurers' reports of the Linnaean Society of New York, 1901-1948; and of the Brooklyn Entomological Society, 1906-1948. Collection also contains correspondence relating to two organizations not affiliated but related in interests to the Academy and its predecessor. Material pertaining to the establishment of the National Institute of Letters, Arts, and Sciences, 1868; and minutes and correspondence of the American Association for the Advancement of Science, 1887-1888.
